Service Learning Outreach

The service learning group known as Best Buddies came together on October 21 at the Albuquerque Academy to raise awareness and money for those who have IDD (intellectual and developmental disability). For several months, the Best Buddies service learning group prepared and learned all about this event and why it is important to spread their mission of creating one-on-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership skills. As a promoter chapter, members are asked to spread awareness and include kids that don't have opportunities to make friends.

Along with the 12 Bosque students that engaged in this event, over 15 New Mexico schools joined in supporting this cause. Bosque’s local partners from John Baker Elementary joined in the mile-long walk. In addition to the walk, there were several different activities, including a glitter tattoo booth, Zumba lessons, circus acts, singing, and dancing. All of these were performed by members of the Best Buddies program. Thanks to Karl Kalm, program manager, who made this amazing opportunity possible.

"It was heartwarming to see the smiles on the kids' faces when they saw the Bobcat mascot known as the Bobcat. Many would ask to take a picture beside the Bobcat. I left feeling grateful and humbled to have been able to take part in such an impactful cause." ~Mya '21
